The area has many things to see and do.
You can see cows being milked, take a stroll down the paddock see the cows up close, watch out for Rodney tho (the minature hereford bull), we can give a mini tour of the farm, relax in our developing garden, enjoy the quiet.
A short drive will take you to the Puketi kauri forest with lots of nature walks or just see the giant kauri from the board walk, Rainbow falls are great, “The Parrot place” on a fine day gives chance to get up close to many colourful birds. Just down the road from here is the stone store and Kemp house for a bit of history, followed by a coffee at the Pear tree.
Kerikeri town has numerous little shops to check out, farmers markets saturday and sunday, the Matakana chocolate factory, kauri shop, fudge shop and bay of islands honey shop has the biggest beehive. There is various wineries in the are Ake ake, Marsden Estate have great atmosphere, excellent food and of course brilliant wine.
On the way to Paihia (35mins) a stop at the Haururu falls and the views across the bay from the Waitangi Treaty Grounds is great. A boat trip is always in order to take in the Bay of Islands, maybe out to the hole in the rock or dolphin watching, parasailing or skydiving or perhaps a helicopter ride and a stop in at Russell for a drink at the Duke of Marlbrough is always a must.
Then there is the twin coast cycle way, track suitable for all ages bikes can be hired in Kaikohe and the Wairere Boulders are well worth a look, We always enjoy lunch at Opononi looking out at the sand hills and entrance to the Hokianga harbour a further 25min drive will get you to Tane Mahuta the biggest Kauri tree, A ride on the Rawene car ferry is always a novelty.
There are daily bus trips to Ninety mile beach and Cape Reinga, this is a great way to see the far north with a commentary. Some of the most beautiful beaches are within a short distance and great fishing too.
